RV TIPS & TRICKS

Tips for RVing with your Cat

From where to hide the litter box to finding their favorite perch, provide a safe and comfortable RV environment for your cat with these tips!

Take time to adjust to new surroundings

If your RV is stored in your driveway, allow your cat to explore the space and get comfortable with it in the days before you leave, helping them accept it as familiar and safe.

Plan for a secure ride

Some cats are cool with car rides, while others positively hate them. Provide a carrier that is comfortable and secure, including a familiar blanket. For a fearful kitty, try draping a blanket over their carrier to decrease anxiety.

If you travel with your cat loose inside the RV, be prepared that your cat may make a break for it out the door in an unfamiliar place as soon as the door is opened.

Explore the campground safely

Give your cat safe outside access with a leash and harness, or check out the fully screened

portable pet tents. Be sure your cell number is on your cat’s ID tag if they are lost while away from home.

Litter Box Solutions

Finding a discreet but accessible spot for a litter box in a small space can be a challenge. Placing the box in the shower works in many RVs, or RVers have modified their dinette seating, cupboards, or under bed storage with cat doors that lead to the litter box. If you’re stuck for an out-of-the-way spot, go for a covered litter box and litter mat to contain any mess.

To avoid unpleasant smells in tight quarters, use a high quality litter and be prepared to scoop it often.

Find the Perfect Perch

Cats love a good window perch and often prefer to hang out in high places! Be sure to provide a spot where they can watch birds and wildlife from the window. This could be on the back of a couch, on top of the table, or on a high bunk.

Make space for play

Don’t forget to pack your pet’s favourite toys, as well as a few new ones to add some novelty. Save your furniture from bored claws by providing horizontal-style scratch pads around your RV.
